Yesterday was one of those days that writing proved to be a difficult task. Family and obligations became priority in which being able to sit down and write something out could only occur for a few minutes at a time.
It was just one of those "Go go go!" days.
That is fine as we may not always be able to set time aside and write everything down immediately. But there should be a chance or an opportunity to slip a few minutes of time to remind yourself of that great thought that you just had.
What I was able to do was utilize my phone and iPod touch and their notepad function to jot down a few notes to myself. I wanted to get as many words in as possible to help aid in completing NaNoWriMo so writing many words down as quickly as possible was ideal. Yesterday I went with using my iPod as it has the ability to store more words than my phone (without sending an email to myself) in which I was able to write down a few hundred words while away from a computer.
A few hundred words in the face of 50,000 wordsfeels insignificant at first but in all honesty it is not. You must write down every letter first before you can make a word and every word counts towards that goal of 50k. It's just like a marathon. You must keep taking one step ahead of yourself to make it from start to finish so pushing forward no matter what the speed will help aid you in your quest to finish.
I was able to complete ~1,000 words yesterday with little time at the computer itself and now I am ~3,000 words away from hitting the NaNoWriMo goal of 50,000 words.
This trick goes beyond NaNoWriMo though. If you are aspiring to become a writer than using little methods like this to write down a character's trait or an interesting twist to a story can go a long way. If you do not have a digital means to putting down notes for your writing then by all means take a small notepad and pen to write down those musings in your brain. Just do it so that you can continue to think of new things without bogging down your mind with remembering about that awesome love triangle.
Now down to the daily writing.
Yesterday, as I said, I was not able to get to a computer to provide a prompt until later than anticipated. So, I did what I could and the new theme is Foreign Dialect and the daily prompt was Banter.
I do apologize about the late prompt for today. Though, today should prove to be an easy bit of writing for those of you who are used to conversations. The theme for this week is Foreign Dialect.
The majority of this week will be dialogue based prompts so at least one character should have a foreign dialect (fiction or non-fictional).
Today's prompt is Banter. Write a peice of dialogue between at least two characters (or even one person with multiple personalities) that is all about bantering back and forth. This should be fun and enjoyable for you to write and we the readers. Remember that at least one voice in your writing should have a foreign dialect going on.
Now we have today's writing prompt of Mystery.
Today's prompt should fit well in a Mystery story. We want for you to write out a dialogue between at least two individuals where at least one has a foreign dialect as apposed to the other individual.
This can be that one character is questioning another to find out more information (or the last piece of information) for a mystery plot. Or two characters could be talking while going through a mysterious place while attempting to figure out what is happening. You could even write about a person who has woken up in a strange land and is trying to figure out how/why/where.
Show everyone your range with dialogue and get back to writing!
I have actually found more track to run with on my novel so I may not be "finished" with my novel once I hit the 50,000 word mark. This pleases me as now I can explore more ideas with my main character and the world he is set in. I was just able to write an action scene in which my main character (a lowly minion/underling) was able to fight with confidence and the capability to win. From here I feel that I can sprint to the ending while exploring my options now that he is a capable character.
Yay.
Now I am off to write as much as possible today.
